St Michael & All Angels Church

The Parish Church serving Thurmaston is called St Michael and All Angels and is located on the old Melton Road to the west side of the bypass. The church building is opposite the Old National School where education for children in the village started around 1848. Church Hill Juniors, Church Hill Infants and Eastfield schools trace their origins back to the Old School which was built with the help of the local Squire, local wealthy people and the clergy from the Church, the last pupils moved from the Old School in 1968. The church itself can be dated back to 1220, which means we celebrated our 800th anniversary in 2020. Our Church motto is ‘Living as Christ in our community to share the love of God’, and we seek to do this by being available to anyone in the Parish who wants to explore the Christian faith and by being a community of Christians who meet for worship and fellowship, we call fellowship Koinonia at Church Hill Juniors! Of course we also have the privilege of being able to hold Baptisms (you may call it a Christening), Weddings and to celebrate the life of people and to say goodbye through Funeral services. The church runs a weekly parent/carer and toddler group and a weekly community coffee time, we also collect food to donate to local Food Banks amongst many other activities.

As the Parish church it is a tremendous joy to be able to welcome our local primary and secondary schools for special services and educational visits. Taking part in community events like Remembrance Sunday and the annual Thurmaston Lights Up event with local people is also a really important part of the life of the church. We would love to welcome you to visit the church either for a Sunday service, for an event or for a visit. Have a look at our website for our latest news- www.stmichaelsthurmaston.org
