French Day 2026 at Church Hill C of E Junior School

What a wonderfully French-filled day we have had at Church Hill! From the moment the children arrived, the school was alive with French language, culture and creativity as we celebrated French Day 2026.
All pupils had the opportunity to visit our very own French café, beautifully run by our talented Year 6 waiters and waitresses. Speaking entirely in French, they served croissants, pains au chocolat and drinks to every child—who also placed their orders confidently en français! It was a fantastic real-life experience that helped to bring language learning to life.
As part of our commitment to meeting the National Curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages, every child listened to a selection of French songs rhymes and stories. These included Les Animaux, Duex Petits Oiseaux and the colourful favourite Toutes les Couleurs. The classrooms were filled with singing, repetition and lots of smiling faces.
Later in the day, pupils in Year 5 received letters from our link school in Bordeaux which they will be replying to this term! All pupils across the school practised their letter writing techniques by introducing themselves and sharing details such as their names, ages, hometowns, pets, favourite sports and favourite lessons. The children took great pride in their writing.
To finish this très artistique day, all classes explored the work of a famous French (or France-influenced) artist— Seurat, Monet or Van Gogh. Children enjoyed studying their techniques and creating their own inspired masterpieces. Do ask them about their artwork; they will be proud to share it with you!
What a fantastic celebration of language, culture and creativity.
Une journée chargée et magnifique !
