STEM Day Sparks Curiosity at Church Hill CofE Junior School
On Monday, Church Hill CofE Junior School was buzzing with excitement as pupils took part in a whole-school STEM Day, organised by our Science Leader, Mrs Kite.
The day began with a spectacular assembly packed full of fascinating science experiments. Children watched in amazement as a lemon erupted, tried to work out the secret behind a mysterious leaking bottle and even discovered how it is possible to step through a single piece of paper!
Following assembly, pupils took on a creative engineering challenge: designing and making their own musical instruments within a set budget. Along the way, they learnt about the science of sound, including how vibrations create the sounds we hear. Each class awarded two prizes — one for the best design and one for the best sound.
Throughout the day, children also learnt about a famous scientist and spent time exploring a range of exciting science books to inspire their curiosity and love of discovery.
In the afternoon, classrooms were transformed into mini-laboratories as each class carried out a variety of hands-on science experiments, testing ideas and making observations just like real scientists.
The celebrations continued after school with a fantastic Science Fair, where children proudly showcased their home science projects. We were delighted to welcome Mr Hardy, Chair of Governors, who had the important job of selecting an overall winner. The winning project will be announced in assembly tomorrow.
To keep the scientific excitement going, every child has been given a science activity pack to complete at home this week instead of their usual homework.
We would love to see what you get up to — please tag us on Instagram so we can see your experiments and investigations! You can also find lots more photos from the day on our school Instagram account.
It was a fantastic day of curiosity, creativity and discovery — well done to all our budding scientists!
