Church Hill C of E Junior School Celebrates Inspiring Biannual Environmental Day

Church Hill C of E Junior School held its much-anticipated biannual Environmental Day this week, bringing the whole school together to learn, reflect and take positive action for the planet. The day- led by Mrs Garick, the school's Geography leader- marked an exciting start to a new topic of conversation in which every class explored the environment, the challenges it faces and the steps we can all take to protect it.
Children shared ideas on issues such as pollution, climate change, plastic waste and the loss of habitats—helping build an understanding of the threats facing global ecosystems. Teachers were impressed with how aware and engaged pupils already are, and how eager they were to learn more.
One of the highlights of the day was the school-wide Art and Design Environmental Competition, which challenged pupils to use their creativity to show how we can care for our environment, with a special focus on reducing plastic waste. Children were encouraged to choose any artistic medium they liked, with suggestions including posters, collages, 3D models and even projects using recycled plastics.

The response was exceptional. Teachers and staff were overwhelmed by the quality, imagination and effort that went into every entry. Colourful posters spread powerful messages about recycling and protecting wildlife, while inventive 3D models transformed everyday waste materials into inspiring artworks with a strong environmental message. Many pupils used plastic bottles, wrappers and packaging to create thoughtful displays about reducing single-use plastic.
The day not only showcased the remarkable creativity of Church Hill’s pupils but also highlighted their growing sense of responsibility for the world around them.
Church Hill C of E Junior School is proud of the commitment and creativity shown by all pupils—and excited to see where their environmental learning will take them next.
